Why Every Fashionista must put Italy on their bucket list!
Recently I travelled to Italy for five weeks, travelling from Milan in the North all the way down to Sicily in the South, visiting as many cities as I could along the way. As I travelled I started to realise just how many of those iconic fashion brands we know and love began in this country full of fashion, art, history and culture.
Italy is home to some of the biggest and most famous fashion designers and labels in the world, including Prada, Gucci, Versace, Valentino, Armani, Dolce and Gabbana, Missoni, Moschino, Bulgari, Fendi, Furla, Miu Miu, Moncler, Fila, Diesel, Salvatore Ferragamo, Roberto Cavalli, Givenchy, Max Mara and many many more.
Italian designers are known for being unique, with exquisite taste of fabrics and for the finest of tailoring with unmistakable creativity and luxury.
The very first fashion show in Italy was held in Florence in the 1950's and then shifted to Roma and is now based in Milan which is recognised as one of the top five fashion capitals in the world.
Italian designers are innovative creators and have always appealed to celebrities and royalty. Jacqueline Kennedy's wedding dress was designed by Valentino and how can we forget Marilyn Monroe's famous red shoes designed by Salvatore Ferragamo.
Today the International Italian Fashion houses include handbags, sportswear, shoes, perfumery and sunglasses. These brands are also making a huge influence with their signature names currently featured on t-shirts and those ever famous Gucci belts every fashionista is currently sporting. With social media influencers promoting these signature labels as must haves these fashion houses are set to rule the fashion world for years to come.
Every city I visited there was a signature collection only available in that particular city. Dolce and Gabanna for example have the exclusive ' Capri Collection' only available in Capri boutiques.
As I travelled around Italy I found the best fashion to be in Bellagio, Milan, Venice, Florence, many places along the Amalfi Coast and especially the Isle of Capri.
All this fashion combined with trips to the Vatican, Colosseum, Venice, Lake Como and the Amalfi Coast I would recommend to all lovers of fashion, art, history and culture.
