Six Resolutions for a Stylish 2017

While there’s no need to wait until December 31 to make a change, there’s something to be said about the whole “new year, new me” vibe that gives us the final push over the finish line. Whether you’re looking for a stylish boost, a little help in the wellness department or a total life overhaul (hey, no biggie!), we’ve rounded up six resolutions to inspire your best year yet

Cleanse your wardrobe - for real, this time.

You’ve read all the articles (including this one), done the mental prep a million times yet still stare into a sartorial abyss each morning when pulling together an outfit. We’ve all been there. But there’s no time like the present (ie. a slew of public holidays) to take some time out and reorganise your wardrobe. Be honest about the pieces you love, hate, and the ones you didn’t even remember owning… And edit! If there’s a little extra room to accommodate post holiday-purchases, well that’s just a well-timed bonus.

Time is money - choose a timepiece.

While there’s no doubt our phones are our go-to for anything and everything, there’s nothing quite like the look and feel of a quality watch around your wrist. Equal parts fashionable and functional, a unique timepiece speaks to your personal style and adds a touch of polish to every outfit. Now, all that’s left to do is remember to check it.

Hack your budget.

Whether you’re already finance-savvy or firmly in the ‘ignorance is bliss’ camp (guilty!), reassessing your budget and setting clear cash goals is always a good idea. If hoarding receipts and spreadsheets sound like a bonafide nightmare, download a free budgeting app to help keep track of your spending and saving. Having access to your shopping habits at the touch of a button makes it easier to stay on track, without feeling like you’re stuck doing maths homework.

Work out, your way.

Put your athleisure kit to work, and figure out a way to make exercise enjoyable this year. Figure out what you like (group classes? flexibility?) and what you don’t (feeling trapped on the treadmill), and curate a unique fitness plan that ticks all the boxes for you. You don’t have to spend a tonne of money or hours on end in the gym each day to reap the rewards - simply find an activity you love, and get moving.

Up your gourmet game.

Basic cooking skills are essential to #adultlife, but just because you’ve mastered the poached egg and al dente pasta doesn’t mean you have to stop there. Think about one of your favourite things to order when out, and make it your mission to recreate it at home. Sure, perfecting a new recipe takes some trial and error, but it’ll be the tastiest trial and error you’ll ever do.

Discover something new.

There’s a big, wide world of art, culture, history and more out there - treat yourself to something different and aim to discover something new this year. Whether it’s a trip to an art gallery, a niche class you’ve always wanted to take or a trip off the beaten path, stepping outside your comfort zone is what’s going to keep 2017 exciting.
