Have you just managed to get your foot in the door with an internship in the fashion industry? Here are some tips of how to get the most out of this amazing experience, and set yourself up for the future.
Anna Wintour’s previous assistant and now well-renowned celebrity stylist Kate Young says that in a position such as a highly-coveted internship opportunity, the word “no” or “can’t” doesn’t exist. Now, this isn’t to say you should let yourself be treated poorly! But if your boss tells you to achieve something and you can’t, find 7 other ways in which you can receive a very similar result and present them, finished. This may sound intimidating, but it’s just about being a proactive worker!
Introduce yourself & be kind!
Comparatively, the fashion industry is a very small world. You never know who could prove to be an important contact in the future and it will definitely pay off in the end.
Put your pride aside.
As an intern, it is likely you will sometimes be doing things that you wouldn’t consider your “dream job”. But these small things are what it takes to progress to your dream career. If there is nothing to do at a particular time, sweep or clean instead of sitting down. When an opportunity arises, an employer is much more like to think of the hard working employee and pass on their information.
Keep track of what you do each day.
If you write down what tasks you did each day, you can be sure that you won’t miss any important skills when adding to your resume.
