Get a Summer Glow Without the Risks

Unfortunately it’s that time of the year again. The time when Australia turns into a scolding oven, making us anxious to touch the steering wheel at mid-day, while also melting our fav lipsticks accidentally left in the glove box (And don’t even get me started on the humidified, frizzy hair). It is safe to say November; you really have not been missed. But on the other hand, November, you bring one big positive to the table- perf beach weather!
Now the first thing you (and admittedly myself in the past) do would be to grab your most flattering bikini, oil and a beach towel then bake under the sun until your skin radiates with a gorgeous bronzed glow (or a severe red burn). But seriously there’s nothing healthy about a tan. This summer it is time to put down the coconut oil and pick up a tanning mitt. I love to fake tan, it makes me feel confident and like a bronzed goddess. A fake tan will not only make you instantly slimmer and healthier, but also benefit you in the long run- goodbye Botox!
And don't worry, you won't look like this...
According to the Cancer Council Australia more than 2,200 Australians died in 2013 from skin cancer alone. This number is alarming considering that it is one of the most preventable diseases if you use the appropriate sun safety tools (Slip, slop and slap guys). The Council also mentions that a tan is a serious form of skin damage from UV rays. While a tan looks great for a week, later on in life the after effects will show through sunspots or even worse Melanoma. But never fear gals, it’s never too late to invest in a bottle of literally life-saving fake tan (and some sunscreen if you’re about to hit the beach).
My personal favourite and easiest fake tan to apply would either be Bondi Sands Dark foaming mousse, or Loving Tan Ultra Dark foaming mousse. Both are super easy to apply, and take about six-eight hours to fully develop. Depending on the event I apply my tan with a tanning mitt and "marinate" myself Thursday night, and then wash it off Friday morning. This guarantees my tan is super fresh for the weekend’s shenanigans. I then apply a gradual tanning moisturiser daily with a SPF to maintain that glow, while also protecting my skin. That way whether you are going to a party, or hitting the beach you will have the perfect, healthy glow without any of the health risks.
Tip: Make sure you exfoliate your skin, and shave (your legs) least two days prior to tanning to ensure you have a streak free, even tan.
The whole process can be a little daunting the first time. The thoughts of, "what if I turn out looking like a twisty?", or "What if I miss a massive patch on my leg and look like a cow?". I can safely say both these things have happened to me, and you know what? I picked up that tanning mitt and learned from my mistakes! I also learned that sometimes you just gotta’ do that third coat. Don’t be scared to try something new because once you fake it, you will never bake it.
