International fashion short courses are an increasingly popular choice for those who dream of a career in the industry. These courses aim to enhance your knowledge of the sector and advance your skills to prepare you for internship and entry-level jobs. Over recent years the courses have been offered with glossy prospectuses and big fashion names attached however although these courses can offer a formal doorway into this exclusive industry they are designed to complement your current studies and experience.  

These are just five examples from the many short courses available around the world.

MILAN FASHION CAMPUS, MILAN - ITALY

The summer courses for Milan Fashion Campus have no age restrictions and have two week to one month study options. The one month intensive program is 96 hours full time participation. There is also a part time option for 48 hours with two lessons per day which is approved upon application. The course is taught in Italian, English and Spanish. Some courses accommodate for German. You can also apply for master combination courses for example you can select three week fashion styling combined with one week fashion photoshoot training. Angelo Russo is the college principal of Milan Fashion Campus who has worked with Giorgio Correggiari and Giani Versace.

PARIS AMERICAN ACADEMY, PARIS - FRANCE

The Paris American Academy has a summer fashion program where students have the opportunity to focus on one of three specializations: Couture Techniques, Design Process, or Fashion Merchandising & Communication. Coursework is tailored to the students’ specialisations, along with shared coursework in core areas. Students will also have the opportunity to attend and assist backstage at fashion week shows. The three different pricing structures include the course and different categories of accommodation in Paris.

CENTRAL SAINT MARTINS, LONDON - UK

The Summer Study Abroad program at Central Saint Martins provides a short one week program for most of their summer courses where they focus on helping students develop their research ideas into designs, presentations and objects to a finished portfolio standard. The classes are taught through a series of research projects, visits to specialist shops, galleries and studio sessions, with individual and group tutorials.  Most of the short courses are for 3 week periods.

AMSTERDAM FASHION ACADEMY, AMSTERDAM, NETHERLANDS

One week summer fashion courses at Amsterdam Fashion Academy have subjects which include creative pattern cutting, fashion design, fashion forecasting, marketing and buying.

IMG FASHION CAMP, FLORIDA, USA

For younger millennials the IMG Fashion Camp is popular and next year will be its 3rd year since inception. There are age restrictions for this particular fashion camp and you can either choose to stay on campus or not with fees that starts from $2,2550. This Fashion Camp covers various aspects of the fashion industry from modelling and fashion design to content creation and brand creative direction.  This year the camp was held in July and special guests included Brandon Maxwell, Halima Aden, Hailey Baldwin, Daniel Martin, stylist Sally Lyndley and Russell James.
