For the first Q&A for 2020, we talk to Camilla Schippa, CEO of The Social Outfit, a social enterprise providing employment and training to people from refugee and new migrant communities.
Q1: Who, what or where is so hot right now?
ETHICAL! ETHICAL! ETHICAL!
Q2: Finish this sentence,"I am always ready to wear..."
Colour and fun, with an ethic twist.
Q3: Bruises, blisters and bad hair cuts - have you suffered for fashion? If so, state the injury. Was it worth it?
Stomach cramps from tight jeans, very tight jeans, insanely tight jeans!
Q4: What is your favourite fashion moment on film?
Sofia Loren in any of her films.
Q5: Do you remember the first time you felt fashionable? How old were you? What were you wearing?
Probably 8 years old, wearing a striped white shirt and dark blue jeands/overalls.
Q6: Who would beat you in a walk-off?
I would lose.
Q7: Have you ever committed a crime of fashion? What was it? Were you guilty or not guilty?
Guilty of replicating a wonderful Alberta Ferretti linen dress when it started to fall apart from over-wear.
Q8: What is the one thing that you never leave home without?
My prescription sunglasses, I live in Australia and I cannot see without them.
Q9: "Sweatpants are a sign of defeat." Do you agree or disagree?
Disagree, there are some amazing sweatpants out there.
Q10: If your fashion fairy godmother could grant you one wish, what would it be?
Make refugee fashion that we sew at The Social Outfit the new fashion must-have so we can employ and empower more women!
The Social Outfit is located on King Street, Newtown in Sydney. Activities span from clothing production, retail, design and marketing. As well as encouraging sustainable practices and reducing the amount of fabric that ends up in landfill.
